So… Why Am I Writing a Blog?

I’ve got to admit something.

I’m not completely sure what this blog is going to become.

I know that I want to talk about leadership - but probably not the polished, corporate version of leadership where everyone follows the model, says the right things, and walks away with an action plan.

I want to talk about what happens when real people get involved.

Because real people are messy.

We bring our emotions, fears, assumptions, insecurities, past experiences, and completely different interpretations of the same words into every conversation.

And then we expect our leaders to know what to do with all of that.

Most of them were never taught how.

They were promoted because they were good at their jobs. Then somebody handed them a team and expected them to understand motivation, conflict, communication, trust, emotional intelligence, and all the other things that don’t come with an instruction manual.

That’s the side of leadership I want to explore here.

The side that makes a leader close the door and think, “What the hell do I do with this now?”

Some weeks, I’ll share something I’ve learned during my 30-plus years of leading, coaching, facilitating, and occasionally screwing things up.

Other weeks, I may share a story, question an assumption, or talk about something I’m still trying to understand myself.

I don’t promise to have all the answers.

But I do promise that we’ll be honest about the questions.

Because leadership isn’t really about managing processes.

It’s about leading real people in a messy world.

And that’s what we’re going to talk about. Get ready my friends, It's gonna get messy In here! Until next my friends, Be EDified.
